Gaffes Examples: 2013

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) claims that the state of South Dakota borders Canada.

Vice President Joe Biden declares that President Barack Obama's administration "requested $3.1 billion in military assistance for Israel — the most in history". However, the largest amount of aid given by the US to Israel was during the presidency of Bill Clinton.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) warns that "over 170 million jobs" could be lost as a result of sequestration. A spokesperson later clarified that she meant 170 thousand.

Secretary of State John Kerry refers to the non-existent country of "Kyrzakhstan", apparently a mix of the countries Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

During a trip to Europe, Vice President Joe Biden said he had spent half his life on the US Security Council (he had only spent four years on it), described the US's relationship with Britain as an "open relationship", and confused Portugal with Poland.
